For server admins

Add POKEMONU and permissions

What the install asks for and why, optional server-tool permissions, and role hierarchy.

Add the bot

The Add button opens Discord’s own install screen for the POKEMONU application. Pick a server — only servers where you have Manage Server are listed — review the permissions and authorise. The website never sees your Discord login, and there is nothing to sign up for.

Both buttons request the bot and applications.commands scopes. Neither asks for Administrator. You can untick any permission on Discord’s screen.

What it asks for

The standard Add POKEMONU button asks only for what collecting, battles, cards, games and the Pokétwo helper need (permission value 274878024768):

PermissionWhy
View ChannelsSee the channels where people use commands and where spawns appear.
Send MessagesReply to commands and post encounters, battles and results.
Send Messages in ThreadsReply when someone plays inside a thread.
Embed LinksEvery reply is an embed: Pokémon cards, menus and battle boards.
Attach FilesTrainer cards, gym boards, bingo boards and battle art are rendered as images.
Read Message HistoryFind and update its own messages and reply in context.
Add ReactionsMark Pokémon Chain links, polls and reaction-role messages.

Optional server tools

Moderation, tickets, auto-roles and lock/unlock need more authority. Add with server tools also asks for these (value 1374792313942). Only grant what you’ll use — you can add a permission to the bot’s role later in Server Settings → Roles.

PermissionUsed for
Manage RolesAuto-role on join, level and reaction roles, !role, and channel lock/unlock overwrites.
Manage ChannelsTicket channels, slowmode and lock/unlock. With it, the bot also creates #starboard and #task when it joins.
Manage Messages!purge and AutoMod deleting filtered messages.
Timeout Members!timeout and AutoMod timeouts.
Kick Members!kick.
Ban Members!ban and !unban.
Manage Nicknames!nick.

When it joins

If the bot has Manage Channels when it joins, it creates two read-only channels when they don’t already exist: #starboard, where rare and shiny catches are posted, and #task. Without Manage Channels it skips this. Pick a different starboard any time with /starboard.

Server spawns of POKEMONU’s own game are on by default. Choose a spawn channel, a rate, or turn them off in /setup → Spawns & games before your community starts chatting.

Five different settings

When something doesn’t work, it helps to know which of these is responsible:

  1. Bot permissions — what the bot’s role may do in your server (the table above). Set by you.
  2. Channel overrides — a channel can deny the bot even when its role allows it. Check the channel’s Permissions tab. Set by you.
  3. Command permissions — Server Settings → Integrations → POKEMONU controls who can use which slash commands where. Set by you.
  4. Role hierarchy — the bot can only manage roles below its own highest role. Set by you.
  5. Gateway intents — Message Content and Server Members are enabled by the bot operator in Discord’s Developer Portal. Server admins can’t change these; if !diag reports them off, contact support.

Role hierarchy

Level roles, reaction roles, auto-role and !role only work for roles below POKEMONU’s role. In Server Settings → Roles, drag the POKEMONU role above every role you want it to hand out. It also can’t time out, kick or ban members whose top role is higher than its own.

After adding it

  1. Run !serverhealth in your main channel to check the bot’s permissions there.
  2. Open /setup to choose greetings, levels, moderation, spawn channels and tickets.
  3. Test as an ordinary member (or ask a friend): run /start and !wild.

Continue with Set up your server, or share Start playing with your members.

Ready to try it? Add POKEMONU, then run /start.
